Notes from the Concert Trail

From the Concert Trail in the Yukon!
Saturday, September 27, 2008

Picture an old Fire Hall beside the Yukon River... Tall wooden beamed ceilings...  Warm stage lights splash on a small stage at one end of the room.  Early on a Saturday afternoon and happy children run around while smiling parents mingle.  Advance tickets for the hastily organized show sold out a few days earlier... And now families cluster around the door hoping for “no shows”.  Local environmental singer/songwriter Remy Rodden sings from the stage as kids of all ages smile and laugh together...  Brightly coloured balloons bob around the room and voices softly sing along.  Visiting musician Peter Lenton sings harmony via a wireless headset from somewhere in the room, while Remy sings of keeping our earth clean and recognizing the importance of maintaining bio-diversity.  Peter & Remy take turns singing songs to plant the seeds of caring for the planet...  Remy & Peter realized a mutual life-long dream of performing and touring together... And they also spent the following week delivering concerts in Whitehorse and beyond.  Watch our “Photo Album” for pictures!

Puffin Sings From the Saskatechwan Forest!
Thursday, August 16, 2007

Peter’s Concert Packs the Cypress Hills Amphitheatre in Southwest Saskatchewan, July 2007! "This surely must be one of the best views from a concert stage ever!" Peter exclaimed during the soundcheck for his triumphant return to the Saskatchewan side of Canada’s celebrated Inter-Provincial Park. "I have fond memories of a packed, steaming hot Rec Hall performance a couple of thousand shows ago in 1997 and I’ve been looking forward to returning ever since! Early evening sunshine splashed through the branches and onto the straight, magnificent stands of Lodgepole Pine trunks, providing the perfect setting for a summer amphitheatre concert. Kids and parents and grown-ups streamed along the network of forest paths leading to the concert venue, long before show time.  "Looking out from the stage I could see hundreds of smiling faces surrounded by gorgeous Pine trees, boughs waiving ever so slightly in the evening breeze, while wisps of cloud sailed by in a powder blue sky above. What an appropriate place to sing together about saving habitat and looking after nature! One of the park interpreters estimated over 500 people jammed into the seats, sitting at Peter’s feet and spilling out into the woods around the seating area. The kids and grown-ups sang wonderfully on their own, and together their voices could be heard all over the park. Peter helped the audience write "The Cypress Hills News" about protecting their unique area of wilderness... Where the rolling prairies meet the pines near the Alberta/Saskatchewan border. Peter’s summer tour has traveled to Saskatoon’s Pike Lake Provincial Park, two concerts to celebrate Parks Day and the Parks Canada Centennial in spectacular Jasper, and three concerts to commemorate 60 years since the first Alberta Oil Well strike at Leduc #1 in 1947! See our photo album for pictures as they are posted. Wishing safe travels to all!

Dear kids, parents, teachers and supporters of heart-felt music making!

Helloooooooooooooo from that province where the patchwork, quilt-like prairies rise towards the the Canadian Rockies! Thanks for visiting us on the web. I hope you'll stay and look around this Puffin place in cyberspace... created with pride by Peter and the web wizardry of our site designer Kathy Steffan.

You can listen to song clips and maybe buy a CD or a video or a teaching activity booklet. There are photos of: Peter Puffin (the performer) and the good people I get to meet through our concerts, workshops and artist-in-residence school visits.

There are fun activities for kids... to help celebrate the precious environment that we share with so many awesome living things... and suggestions for community building and increasing our quality of life... Every day is precious, so let's celebrate with music, storytelling and life-long learning with friends and family!

Yours in song,

Peter Puffin (aka Peter Lenton)
